The National Institution for the Protection of the Cultural Monuments and Museum of Ohrid is once again hosting this edition of the SYMPOSIUM ON THEORETICAL MEDITERRANEAN ARCHAEOLOGY, held for the second consecutive year in Ohrid, organized by the Institute of History and Archaeology at the “Goce Delčev” University, in cooperation with the Cultural Heritage Protection Office, the Institute for Protection of Monuments of Culture and Museum of Ohrid, the Institute for Cultural Heritage and Archaeology – Skopje, together with numerous partners from Macedonia and abroad.
The symposium will be attended by the founder and long-time president of the Spanish Institute of Cultural Heritage, and former president of the European Association of Archaeologists, Professor Felipe Criado Boado, the European and Dutch academic Wärschläus, as well as directors and professors from some of the world’s most highly ranked universities in the field of archaeology and ancient history: Sapienza, Leiden, University College London, the Max Planck Institute of Florence, the University of Gothenburg, the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Austrian Academy of Sciences, the UNESCO Chair on the Heritage of the Future, and numerous other European and regional universities and research centers.
This year the Lychnidos International Scientific Symposium on Theoretical Mediterranean Archaeology will be held from September 18 to 20 in Ohrid, at several of the finest sites of Macedonian cultural heritage. The symposium’s opening will take place at the Gallery of Icons – Ohrid at 7 p.m., while the scientific sessions will be held at the Memorial House of Hristo Uzunov, the Memorial House of Grigor Prlichev, and the House of the Robevi Family. This year’s symposium theme is “Mediterranean Archaeology Between Empires and Imperialism,” and according to the symposium’s director and head of the Institute of History and Archaeology at the “Goce Delčev” University, Professor Tevdovski, an international scientific publication is already being prepared, which will include contributions from the distinguished guests and scholars from Macedonia and around the world.
The opening of the international symposium also marks the beginning of the official celebration of the European Heritage Days in Ohrid, the UNESCO City.
